Backcountry Ski Touring

For many people, backcountry ski touring is the ultimate skiing experience. It can be hard to beat the adventure of walking into the mountains to find and ski untracked powder. Whether you’re looking to do your first ski tour or have previous experience and wish to do something challenging, I can provide something for all levels.

Safety equipment is compulsory for all backcountry touring. I can provide top of the range equipment for a modest fee that saves you having to source it yourself. Alternatively, you can rent elsewhere or use your own equipment.

Previous off-piste experience is a requirement when booking. Additionally, you need an appropriate level of fitness for spending a day in the mountains and walking uphill with a backpack in ski boots.

Ski touring is only available for full day bookings. During the day I will cover all of the following topics in addition to skiing some of the best descents in and around Les Trois Vallées, tailoring the day to your level.

-          Avalanche safety equipment (how to use it and perform a rescue)

-          Correct use of touring equipment (skis, boots, bindings, skins)

-          Terrain management (risks and how to plan a safe route)

-          Skinning techniques (how to tour efficiently, kick-turns, how to get the most grip out of your skins and pacing)

-          Introduction to snow science and weather in the mountains
